Road improvement works will be carried out in the Central African Republic (CAR) that will improve its transport connections to its neighbours, both to the west and east. Funding for the work is being delivered by the World Bank and also the French development body, AFD.
The World Bank will provide US$75 million in funding while the package from AFD is worth $11.5 million. This will deliver a much-needed economic boost to the country,as well as the region, by facilitating international trade.
The work will provide an important transport connection for landlocked CAR, linking its capital Bangui with the port of Douala in neighbouring Cameroon to the west. Road improvements will also be carried out to ease transport with neighbouring Sudan in the east.
