Construction work has been completed for a 62km highway section in Iraq, linking the Al Faw Grand Port and Umm Qasr. The project is of major significance as it is a key link in the $17 billion highway that will run from Al Faw Grand Port in Southern Iraq all the way to the port of Mesrin in North Turkey, a distance of 1,200km.
The new highway link connects Al Faw Grand Port with the Safwan Highway and has been carried out by Daewoo Engineering & Construction. The project cost $440 million and included building two new bridges, measuring 800m and 400m, as well as a new interchange.
