Paraguay key bridge project is restarting

Additional funding worth US$45 million is being made available for the Heroes del Chaco bridge project in Paraguay. The work had stalled on the project due to a shortage of funds. However,the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has now paid this sum to the Union consortium building the bridge, which comprises CDD Construcciones and Constructora Heisecke.

Construction work has now restarted as a result. The bridge was supposed to have been complete in July 2023. The 450m bridge was expected to cost $115 million originally but will now cost considerably more.

When complete, the cable-stayed bridge will provide a more direct connection between Paraguay’s capital Asunción and the town of Chaco’I, carrying an expected 10,000 vehicles/day. The opening of the bridge will help to reduce congestion on an existing bridge that lies around 8km to the north.

This new bridge is a key infrastructure project for Paraguay, improving road connections with Argentina and Brazil, linking Puerto Falcón to the Botanical Road Corridor, Ñu Guasu Highway, Luque – San Bernardino Route and Route 2.
