A massive programme of road repairs is planned for New Zealand in a bid to address defective roads. The plans call for up to 10% of the road network to be resurfaced or benefit from major improvements. A total of 24,000 lane km of roads will benefit from improvements.

The work is being planned by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), or Waka Kotahi. Much of the work will be focussed on the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. The plans call for more than 700 lane km will to be improved in these areas. This is the largest road repair programme the NZTA has ever planned.
