The World Bank has secured funding worth US$330 million for road upgrade work in Cameroon. This will be used for improvements to the 205km road that connects Kousseri and Maroua in the north of Cameroon.
The work will help improve the economy in this less developed area of Cameroon, as well as boosting trade with neighbouring Chad as Kousseri lies on the border with the country and is close to its capital, N’Djamena. Kousseri is also close to Cameroon’s border with Nigeria and that country’s busy northern city, Maidugri.
The finance package secured via the World Bank comprises a credit worth $280 million as well as a grant worth $50 million. This last has been provided by the International Development Association (IDA) Window for Host Communities and Refugees (WHR), the concessional window of the World Bank.
