Poland is planning a road safety improvement programme worth €8.82 billion. The aim will be to improve safety standards on Poland’s road network, as well as the quality of infrastructure. The programme is being planned by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA).

GDDKiA has set out the aims of its Safe Road Infrastructure Programme (PBID) and National Road Network Reinforcement Programme. There will be 1,000 individual road safety improvements. There will be over 250 projects to maintain, rebuild, upgrade or widen existing stretches of national roads and key junctions.

At present work is being carried out for 377 of the improvement projects. A further 409 projects are at the planning stage.
