The Utility Expo has signed an agreement with the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) to increase educational offerings at the show in Louisville from September 26-28, 2023.
The biennial Utility Expo – owned by the US-based AEM (Association of Equipment Manufacturers) – helps utilities and utility and construction contractors gain comprehensive insights into the latest industry technologies, innovations and trends, focused on electric transmission and distribution, telecom, cable, natural gas water and wastewater and vegetation management.
“Safety has always been a front-and-centre issue for Utility Expo,” said John Rozum, the Utility Expo show director. “From the equipment that utility professionals use onsite, to the potentially hazardous environments they can find themselves in, safety needs to always be priority number one. The people at ATSSA understand that a lot of utility work is done in and around traffic and they have put together a great education agenda to help keep utility pros safe when the traffic cones come out.”
The education programmes that ATSSA will be presenting are to help participants expand their knowledge about traffic safety while on the job. Topics include personal protective equipment (PPE), emerging safety technologies, liability and exposure, becoming a traffic control technician and earning ATSSA flagger certification.
“Utility crews are always safety-minded when it comes to getting people’s lights on and water running,” said Donna Clark, vice president of education and technical services at ATSSA. “We’re glad the show where the utility industry goes to grow has invited us in to keep utility pros up to speed on not just how to keep their teams safe, but how to keep everyone who comes near a utility jobsite that impacts a roadway safe.”
The Utility Expo helps utility professionals and construction contractors gain comprehensive insights into the latest industry technologies, innovations and trends. The biennial trade show, known for equipment test-drives and interactive product demonstrations, takes place in Louisville in the US state of Kentucky from September 26-28.
AEM says that it is helping to spread the word about the importance of damage prevention and how equipment can play an important role in protecting buried facilities. To this end, the future of underground utility damage prevention will be the focus of The Jobsite 2023, presented by Planet Underground, a peer-to-peer educational learning and networking event featuring the cutting-edge technology and transformative processes that could impact future work of underground utilities and utility contractors. Continuous hands-on demonstrations and scheduled educational events will comprise The Jobsite 2023.
