The UAE has a plan worth $1.63 billion to build the Fourth Federal Corridor. The 68km stretch of motorway will feature four flyovers and 10 interchanges. The route will have stretches will four lanes in either direction as well as stretches with three lanes in either direction. A schedule for the Fourth Federal Corridor project, including the tendering process and intended start and completion of construction, has yet to be released.
The project forms part of the UAE’s five-year plan for transport, which includes works worth a total of $46.3 billion. Capacity upgrades will be carried out across the country’s transport network, with key routes being widened in a plan to lower congestion levels and cut journey times.
The UAE’s existing Federal Corridors are the E11, which includes Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Ittihad Road, the E311 Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road and the E611 Emirates Road. Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road will be widened so that they feature five lanes in either direction. Meanwhile, Etihad Road will be widened so that it features six lanes in either direction.
