John Deere Power Systems is introducing a new 4litre, four-cylinder diesel engine and is in the process of developing new 5litre and 8litre units. All three engines retain the high-power density concept seen already in existing units from the firm.
New to the market, the compact 4litre-capacity JD4 is available now and offers power ratings from 63-129kW, depending on requirements. The coming 5litre JD5 will be available with power ratings from 93-200kW, while the 8litre JD8 will offer power ratings from 187-290kW, with both units being ready for the market in 2029. As with the existing 9litre, 14litre and top-of-the-range 18litre engine, the new units will be able to run on HVO and up to 30% biofuels.
Also being unveiled by John Deere Power Systems is a concept mobile electric charging system using Kreisel battery technology. Mounted on four wheels, this towable unit is rated at 252kWh. It features a 240V AC output and maximum DC output ratings of 850V/200A. The firm said that the unit is intended for onsite charging of electric machines, boosting versatility for users.
