Pothole compensation claims submitted to local authorities have risen by 91% in just three years, according to RAC analysis of FOI data from 177 councils across Britain. With the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA) reporting that the £18.62 billion backlog of repairs would take 12 years to clear, it may be time for a new approach.
However, a new solution to the issue could come from Univrses, a Stockholm-based deep tech company developing computer vision and AI technologies for autonomy and infrastructure intelligence. The company supports authorities at all levels across Europe – including National Highways in England, and its Swedish equivalent, Trafikverket, as well as Dutch government ministries and agencies, and the EU – to deliver high-fidelity infrastructure intelligence.
Through a strategic partnership, Pirelli has recently taken a 30% stake in the company. By using Univrses’ technology authorities have access to continuous, scalable road monitoring and real-time visibility that shifts asset management from reactive to proactive, reducing costs through better planning of maintenance and more effective resource allocation.
