Work is going ahead for the important Oosterweel Link around Antwerp in Belgium. The contracts for the construction of the €2.35 billion Right Bank sub-project have now been awarded. The Tijdelijke Maatschap Rechteroever Compleet consortium (TM ROCO) was awarded the package of work for the construction of the Right Bank sub-project of the Oosterweel Link by the client, LANTIS.
TM ROCO comprises the Belgian construction companies BAM Contractors, BESIX, Cordeel, Deme, Denys, Franki Construct, Jan de Nul, Van Laere and Willemen Infra.
The Right Bank sub-project, via the Oosterweel intersection, forms the link between the Scheldt tunnel and the R1, both in the Northern and Eastern directions. The R1 will also be built in a cutting and partly covered. The Merksem viaduct will be removed and the urban landscape will be transformed into a green and sustainable environment.
To achieve all this in as short a time as possible it is necessary to build a temporary new R1 to the East of the existing R1. The Right Bank sub-project is a large project and one of the most complex road works ever carried out in Flanders.
Meanwhile, another portion of the Oosterweel Link project worth more than €500 million is being handled by the Rinkoniên consortium. As part of the project, the road will be sunken over a stretch of 1.7km and involves replacing the Royerssluis lock. The aim of the project is to make the ring road around Antwerp a closed loop. The works are expected to be completed in 2030.
The Dutch dredging and offshore services provider Boskalis has a 20% share of the package of works. Also involved in the consortium are the firms Mobilis, CIT Blaton, Artes and Stadsbader.
