Algeria’s major road development programme

Algeria is developing its road network, boosting its economy and helping ensure future political stability

Algeria is benefiting from a growing road network. This helping to boost the country’s economy and improve its political stability. Infrastructure investment is being seen right across the country. Several major construction projects are either underway or about to commence.

Road development programme

The programme of road development includes 84 separate projects with a total of more than 872km. So far 363km roads have been built, while work is starting on 34 projects for a further 509km of roads.

Work is underway for 109km of national roads and 77.5km of local roads. Surfacing and maintenance works are being carried out to 253km of roads, of which 90km are for national roads and the remainder are for local roads.

Modernisation and maintenance

The 34 new road projects commencing include converting some routes to dual carriageways, carrying out modernisation, maintenance, reinforcement and consolidation works. A further eight road projects are planned and will extend for 72km.
