Construction is starting for the $4.6 billion project that will provide more tolled express lanes and bus rapid transit to Highway 400 in the US state of Georgia. The project is being managed by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The work will be carried out on a 25.6km stretch and the project is due for completion in 2031. Financing for the work is being provided by the consortium SR 400 Peach Partners. The firm has a 50-year concession package to operate and maintain the toll lanes. The consortium comprises ACS Infra, Acciona and Meridiam.
The new express lanes for SR 400 will lie between the MARTA North Springs Station at Exit 5C in Fulton County and around 1.6km to the north of the SR 400/McFarland Parkway Interchange at Exit 12 in Forsyth County. Ramps and a collector-distributor (C/D) system that is currently under construction will connect the current general-purpose lanes on I-285 to the Express Lanes.
Once complete, the SR 400 Express Lanes project is intended to reduce congestion at the SR 400 and I-285 interchange. This will also connect with the proposed I-285 Top End East.
