A further US$1.62 billion is being invested in three major road projects in Vietnam at present. Of this, $779 million is for a new coastal road in Ben Tre Province. This 52.5km route will boost traffic connectivity with neighbouring Tra Vinh Province and Tien Giang Province. One of the major portions of the projects will be to build the Ba Lai Bridge.

Meanwhile, construction is now underway on the Hoa Binh – Moc Chau Expressway project. This 34km route is costing $425.7 million and will improve transport for Hoa Binh Province in the north of the country. The expressway will improve transport connections to Son La Province and Hanoi, with the first phase of the project due for completion at the end of 2027.

In Ho Chi Minh City a new $370.35 million road will connect the ports of Phu Huu and Cat Lai to Beltway No 3 and the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway. The 6km road is being built using a BOT model and forms part of HCMC’s 2020-2030 transport development programme. In addition, $42.6 million will be used to boost capacity a 3.2kmn access road for the Ho Chi Minh City- Long Thanh Expressway. Work will start in 2025 and is expected to take a year to carry out, with the aim of reducing congestion. The road will be widened from its current configuration, which has two lanes in either direction, and will feature four lanes in each direction once complete.
