The UAE is benefiting from major road improvements. Construction for the Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road (E11) in Ras Al Khaimah is now starting. Meanwhile, a 17km road project has been completed in Al Rafiah.
Work for the Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road will be carried out in phases. The first phase includes widening the route so that it has four lanes in either direction as well as building a service road, with maintenance also carried out to the existing roadway. Tunnel stretches and bridges will be built in four areas as part of the second phase. This last phase will improve access to the Al Hamra and Mina Al Arab industrial areas, as well as nearby residential areas.
The 17km road improvement project in Al Rafiah has seen the stretch being widened, boosting capacity and reducing congestion. New asphalt surfacing has been laid, intersections have been upgraded and traffic control and safety systems have been upgraded. The work has been managed by the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA).
