Construction work has commenced for Switzerland’s second Gotthard Road Tunnel tube. This will run between Goschenen and Airolo and measure nearly 17km in length.
The project is costing an estimated 31.86 billion and the tunnel should be ready by 2029. Once the new tunnel has been completed, work will start on the existing tunnel to revamp it and install the latest technology. By 2032 the two tunnels will be in full operation, providing an improved transport link for Switzerland.
