Construction work is underway by contractor Webuild on the Italian island of Sicily for an important new highway link between Catania and Ragusa. Work started on a key stretch of the route, building the Vallone delle Coste Viaduct, earlier this year. The viaduct is being built of pre-stressed concrete.
The new highway will improve transport for Sicily, reducing journey times between Catania and Ragusa, while also boosting safety. Webuild is also building the new high speed rail link that will connect Catania with Palermo, as well as having been awarded the contract to build the bridge spanning the Messina Strait that will link Sicily with Calabria, in Southern Italy.
