Construction work is now starting for the Pedemontana Piemontese highway in northern Italy. The new link will boost transport for the industrial areas of the eastern part of the Piedmont region. The project is being carried out by Italian contractor Webuild and its subsidiary Cossi Costruzioni for ANAS (FS Italiane Group). The new road link will provide a new connection between the A4 Turin–Milan and A26 Genoa Voltri–Gravellona Toce highways, along the corridor between Masserano and Ghemme. It project will boost transport for the provinces of Biella, Vercelli and Novara.
The new infrastructure will strengthen links between the national network, local roads and the area’s productive system, allowing smoother traffic flows and connectivity among the main economic hubs of eastern Piedmont. The highway, which will extend for approximately 15.4km, will include six viaducts. One of these will span 820m over the Sesia River. There will also be six overpasses, four interchanges, six underpasses, hydraulic and environmental mitigation works, a new toll station, and provisions for a future service area.
The Pedemontana Piemontese project brings together Webuild and Cossi Costruzioni. It will benefit from Webuild’s international experience in developing infrastructure and from Cossi Costruzioni, an Italian subsidiary with a strong local presence and experience in transport projects.
