Work has started on the 30km Pitesti-Curtea de Arges stretch of Romania’s A1 motorway, part of the Pan-European Corridor 4.
The latest A1 project – part of Romania’s larger 122km Sibiu-Pitesti motorway – includes construction of 13 bridges, a viaduct, three passages, three junctions, two services areas, two road maintenance centres and two short-term car parks.
Cost is estimated at €345.6 million (US$418.5 million) with completion within 60 months, according to an announcement by Catalin Drula,Romania’s minister of Transport Minister.
Meanwhile, work is on schedule on the first section of the Sibiu-Pitesti motorway, according to Romanian media. The 13.7km segment stretches from the town of Boita to the city of Sibiu and cost estimated at €124.4 million ($147.6 million). Construction work began in March last year and completion is set for 2023.
The Sibiu-Pitesti motorway includes work on five segments: Sibiu-Boita, Boita-Cornetu, Cornetu-Tigveni,Tigveni-Curtea de Arges and Curtea de Arges-Pitesti.
