Plans are in hand for the Mill Road project in Auckland,New Zealand. Discussions over the purchase of the land needed for the link are being handled.
The project is expected to cost US$869 million (NZ$1.35 billion) and is now being overseen by the Waka Kotahi,New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA). The construction work should commence in 2022 for the 21.5km connection.
The new road will feature two lanes in either direction and all the stages of the route should be ready for traffic in 2028. The alignment for the road runs parallel with the existing State Highway 1 for much of its length and will also feature facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
At its northern end the route connects with State Highway 1 at Manukau and at its southern end, with State Highway 1 at an interchange at Drury.
The opening of the route will cut congestion and journey times for drivers in Manukau, Manurewa, Papakura and Drury. Auckland suffers heavy congestion at peak periods.
