Discussions are being held between Paraguay and Argentina over the construction of a new bridge linking the two countries. The proposed binational bridge would connect the cities of Pilar in Paraguay’s Ñeembucú Department with Colonia Cano in Argentina’s Formosa Province.
Spanning the Paraguay River the new bridge would form part of Paraguay and Argentina’s joint strategic agenda of physical integration. The aim would be to boost trade and transport between the two nations. As it is landlocked, the need to boost transport connections to its larger neighbours is of key importance for Paraguay.
The project is being overseen in part by Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC). Technical studies are being carried out with the necessary financing having been provided by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean-CAF.
