Oklahoma’s rural roads are benefiting from a US$244 million budget for safety improvements, maintenance and upgrade works. The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) is providing the necessary package of loans via the Build America Bureau to the Oklahoma Capital Improvement Authority (OCIA).
Much of the budget is being spent on improving the safety of rural roads in 15 counties in the state. This is being carried out as the Rural Two-Lane Advancement and Management Plan (RAAMP) for the state. The Phases, 3, 4 and 5 of the RAAMP will see upgrade work carried out to around 85km of rural roads. Seven bridges will be replaced across Oklahoma and new shoulders will be added to these roads. Meanwhile, 100km of roads will benefit from resurfacing work.
