The investment will be for new highways, rail infrastructure and public transport. Roads of National Significance (RONS) will be amongst the priorities. Road maintenance for state highways and local roads will also be a priority, as will expansion of public transport systems.
The Transport Ministry will spend $1.16 billion (NZ$1.9 billion) improving transport links in the Bay of Plenty region. This will include resurfacing nearly 350km of state highways as well as general maintenance and pothole repairs. Transport links to the Port of Tauranga will be upgraded, cutting journey times and improving facilities for heavy vehicles. This work also forms part of the National Land Transport Programme and will be carried out over a three year period.
