A new bypass is planned for the city of Kostroma in Russia. In addition, a new bridge will be constructed that will span the Volga River.
The city lies north west of Moscow and the new bypass and bridge will help improve transport links for Kostroma. The work is expected to take 36 months to complete.
The bypass will measure around 32km and will feature two lanes in either direction, with two major interchanges. The bridge will measure 1km in length and its construction will help reduce congestion for traffic heading in and out of the city.
Although there is a bridge spanning the Volga River and connecting with Kostroma, the link carries around 40,000 vehicles/day and is unable to deal with current traffic volumes, leading to congestion and delays for drivers.
Construction work should commence at the end of 2021 and the work is expected to cost over US$450 million.
