A new expressway section is planned for Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The road stretch will be constructed by a contracting consortium comprising China Communications Construction Company (CCCCL) and China Road & Bridge Corporation (CRBC). The firms will have a 21 year concession package for the route that includes construction,maintenance and operation.
The project for the 13.5km Rampura Expressway is expected to take 36 months to build and will link the areas of Hatirjheel and Demra in Dhaka. The routes will feature two lanes in either direction and 9.5km of the expressway will be raised. There will be an interchange at either end as well as two further entry/exit points along the route.
The consortium will spend US$244.2 million building the link while $141 million will be provided by the Bangladesh Government. The contract was awarded by the Bangladesh National Highway Authority. The work is expected to help reduce chronic congestion in the city. The acquisition process for the land required along the route is already underway.
Approval for the work was given six years ago and the PPP project is progressing at last after long delays.
