Construction is underway for the $2.3 billion I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge project in the US state of Louisiana. The project involves replacing the 70-year old Calcasieu River Bridge with a new, wider structure better able to carry current traffic volumes and that also features facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project is being carried out for the client the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) under the PPP model by Calcasieu Bridge Partners (CBP), which comprises Plenary Americas, Acciona Concessions and Sacyr Concessions. The new link will feature the latest traffic systems that will help to minimise congestion and boost traffic safety. The new bridge will be lower than the existing structure and will carry three lanes of traffic in either direction, with completion due in 2031.
Construction work is also underway for a $102 million bridge spanning Contraband Bayou in Calcasieu Parish in Louisiana. The work is being carried out by Johnson Brothers for the client, LADOTD and the project is expected to be completed by spring 2027.
The prestressed concrete bridge over Contraband Bayou in Calcasieu Parish forms part of the Nelson Road Extension. When it is complete, the new bridge will connect Nelson Road with West Sallier Street.
The bridge and road works are for a 2km stretch, with two lanes being built in the northbound direction and two to three lanes running southbound. There will also be shared facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.
The project includes earthmoving, paving, installing drainage and signage and lighting. It also includes a new rail crossing as well as an access road to the Port of Lake Charles. Work will be carried out to move an existing rail link owned by the port. The city of Lake Charles is also carrying out improvements along West Sallier Street.
