Construction is underway on an important flyover project in Nepal, reports Ram Krishna Wagle, World Highways’Nepal correspondent. The flyover is located at Gwarko Junction on the Kathmandu ring Road, forming part of the Lalitpur section.
This ring road connects the major places of Kathmandu Valley along with Tribhuwan Highway in West connecting Western Nepal Araniko Highway in the east connecting Nepal East with the capital city Kathmandu. The work is being carried out under the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) model by Ashish Samanantar Religare, a joint venture of local Nepalese companies. The US$1.4 million project should be complete in February 2024.
The four-lane overpass will have a total length of 540m; a 35m bridge with a single span connects the Balkumari side with a 320m ramp and the Satdobato side with a 185m ramp. The ramp will be a 16m wide road built on top of a mechanically stabilised earth retaining wall filled with soil. The bridge will have a vertical clearance of 6m.
