Mexico plans to develop its transport infrastructure, having set a major budget for upgrades across the country. The programme is being planned by Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) and involves road as well as rail improvements.
The US$2.2 billion budget will be used for seven projects that will improve transport between the north and south of the country. Key projects include the Interserrana highway, which will provide an improved connection between the Ciudad Victoria-Monterrey highway and Matehuala-Saltillo highway.
Other projects include the Libramiento de Tulum route to boost transport to the Yucatan Peninsular Corridor, the 30-year concession for the Libramiento Sur de Pachuca route, the Libramiento de Cihuatlan route and the Otay II crossing connecting Mexico with the US. In addition, a 62km rail link in Monterrey will be improved.
