Iran is investing $6.63 billion in developing its transport infrastructure. The works are being managed by the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization of Iran.
A budget of $1.9 billion will be spent on building 34 new bridges and carrying out maintenance works or improvements to a further 115 bridges. Road safety is a major problem in Iran and the work includes $510 million for improvements to 281 locations noted for frequent crashes on the country’s highway network.
Other works will include the installation of new ITS systems to help boost traffic flow and safety as well as reducing congestion and delays in major urban areas. There will also be extensive road maintenance, resurfacing and safety works to rural roads to improve connectivity. Key border facilities and highway service areas will be improved also.
