The Indian Government has given its official approval for the widening of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway (NH65) route. At present the NH65 highway features two lanes in either direction but the work will see a 229km stretch being widened so that it has three lanes in either direction. The widened stretch will be between the 40th km and the 229th km. The project is intended to boost capacity and cut journey times, as well as increasing safety for drivers while the land required for the widening work is now being acquired in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile in Hyderabad, a new bridge is being planned to span the Mir Alam Tank. This will carry NH44, which connects Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The bridge will measure 2.6km and will feature two lanes in either direction. The project is being carried out by KNR Construction and will cost $37.7 million.
