German highway widening study

A feasibility study is being carried out in Germany for widening work to a section of the A5 highway, near to the country’s financial centre, Frankfurt. There is some resistance to the widening of the highway stretch however due to concerns over the noise and increased pollution the construction work and then the traffic on the wider road will bring.

The feasibility study is evaluating the possibility of a series of noise control measures to limit the disturbance to the surrounding area from the widened stretch of road. The highway widening work has been proposed as the section of the A5 suffers heavy congestion at peak periods.
