Eurobitume elects Sergio Bovo as president

Other leadership team appointments include Nynas’ Johanna Andréasson as vice president and re-elected as treasurer Shell’s Jean-Nicolas Desprez.

Eurobitume has elected Sergio Bovo as president, taking over from Fabrice Blanc, who is vice president for TotalEnergies’ bitumen business worldwide.

Bovo, who is chief executive of Italy-based bitumen producer Alma Petroli, has been vice president for the past year and will now serve as president for a one-year term.

“I am honoured to have been elected president of Eurobitume at a time when our industry is pivotal to delivering safe, sustainable and resilient infrastructure,” said Bovo. “Bitumen plays a vital role in road construction and across a wide range of applications that support Europe’s mobility and economy. Together with our members, we will continue to drive innovation and responsible practices across the sector.”

Other leadership team appointments confirmed at the recent spring general meeting include Johanna Andréasson as vice president. She is group strategy manager at Nynas, a Swedish bitumen and naphthenic specialty products manufacturer.

Re-elected as treasurer was Jean-Nicolas Desprez, Shell’s bitumen regional technology manager for Europe and South Africa.

Eurobitume, established in 1969 and based in Brussels, is the voice of the bitumen industry in Europe It works to educate and promote the efficient, economic, effective, safe and sustainable use of refined bitumen in road, industrial and building applications. Eurobitume provides information and guidance on technical, health, safety and environmental matters, supporting best practice across the sector.

The organisation has a network of experts across five committees and steering groups. These are: the bitumen and sustainability steering group; the health, safety and the environment committee; the public relations and communications committee; the safe handling sub-committee; and the technical committee.

Each is made up of specialists from member companies and operating through an intensive work programme to deliver guidance and support for members and their customers. They research the scientific and technical issues relating to the handling, application and long-term use of bitumen. They produce relevant data for regulators and provide expert advice and practical guidelines to inform best practice throughout the bitumen industry in Europe.
