Construction work for the €3.5 billion Bologna Passante highway in Italy is now coming closer. The project is being planned by the Italian roads firm Autostrade per l’Italia (ASPI). The project was put forward by the authorities in the City Council of Bologna in 2002. The consultant RINA has sent a report regarding the project to Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT).

The project will provide additional capacity and help reduce congestion at peak periods, which result in long journey times at present. The historic city of Bologna is famed for its many buildings of importance as well as being a city of culture and learning over many centuries. A major university city, it is also a centre for industry with many major manufacturing names located in the vicinity, such as the famous Ducati motorcycle brand.
