Kenya’s €258 million Kenol-Sagana-Marua dual carriageway project is now 93% complete. Widening work for the 84km route will help boost capacity and safety for road users.
The Kenol-Sagana-Marua Road Project forms part of Kenya’s important Great North Road corridor. The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) says that the project will provide an improved route between the capital, Nairobi, and the country’s border with at Moyale Ethiopia, providing an important link for transport and international trade.
The €258 million project is being financed by several sources, with the majority (69%) coming from the African Development Bank (ADB). Kenya’s Government is providing 19% of the funding while the remaining 12% is being provided by the Africa Growing Together Fund.
The road project is one of several being carried out in Kenya to improve transport capacity and safety in the country and also to boost connections to neighbouring nations, such as Ethiopia, Uganda and Tanzania. However, the flagship Nairobi-Mombasa highway upgrade is now well behind schedule, with work having started and stopped at various intervals due to issues with contractors and payments.
