Driver distraction poses a major risk to road users in the US, according to a survey of more than 1000 US business managers and consumers. The 2024 Travelers Risk Index focused on the understanding of risk in the daily lives of those surveyed.

The results reveal that 31% of drivers have been in a road crash due to other road users being distracted. A further 12% admitted that being distracted while driving meant that they were involved in a road crash.

Up to 85% of executives surveyed said they were concerned over the way their employees drove. Meanwhile, 68% of managers have introduced policies to stop employees from using hand-held devices while behind the wheel.

Young drivers are a focus for concern, with parents wanting to limit cellphone use, distances, times and the number of occupants while their offspring are behind the wheel.
