The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is benefiting from major road improvement works. The 850km stretch of Route National 1 highway linking Nguba and Mbuji-Mayi is being improved, with new concrete bridges being built and stabilisation and resurfacing work being carried out.
The road is being improved as part of the Sino-Congolese Programme, with funding having been provided by Sino-Congolaise des Mines. The project is being carried out by the Société d’infrastructures sino-congolaise and is being managed by the Agence Congolaise des Grands Travaux (ACGT).
Meanwhile, DRC capital Kinshasa is benefiting from improvements to 105km of roads. The work has been carried out over a 15-month period. The maintenance and upgrade works will improve traffic flow and safety in the city, while the risk of flooding will be reduced during the rainy season with drainage works also having been carried out.
