The new Ambar Highway project is being planned in the Dominican Republic. The 33km highway is expected to cost US$393 million to construct. The project will be handled under the PPP model. A number of firms have already shown interest in building the highway.
The highway will feature two lanes in either direction and will allow a maximum speed of 100km/h, connecting Puerto Plata and Santiago and allowing a 30 minute journey time. Included in the project will be the construction of a tunnel section, overpasses and bridges, as well as the installation of drainage systems, tolling technology and lighting.
Construction of the new highway will help develop the country’s tourism sector, a major contributor to the economy. Once the road is complete, it is expected to deliver a substantial economic boost for the Dominican Republic.
