Construction is well underway in Colombia for the important Ruta al Mar road project, with around 90% of the work having been completed.
However,the project is facing a number of challenges for the remaining sections of the project. Not all of the necessary approvals and licences have yet been gained for certain stretches of the route. There are also issues with tolling on the sections that are already open, so that the planned revenues are not being achieved. The costs of materials and personnel have also increased.
The builders say that the project, which commenced in 2015, should still be complete by the end of 2024. The project is being managed by Concesion Ruta al Mar.
