Funding from China in the shape of a loan will help pay for a major expressway project in Sri Lanka. A finance package worth US$989 million from the EXIM Bank will pay for the first section of Sri Lanka’s Central Expressway Project (CEP). This first stage of around 57km will connect Kadawatha, on the outskirts of capital Colombo, with Mirigama. In all the CEP is expected to cost $1.16 billion to construct and will improve connectivity in central Sri Lanka.
