The new Changtai Yangtze River Bridge in China has been opened officially, following a six-year construction project. Located in Jiangsu Province, the new bridge provides a high-speed connection between Changzhou and Taizhou.
Measuring just over 10km in length, the new bridge will boost economic development of the Yangtze economic belt and will also improve transport for the Yangtze River delta region. The new bridge combines road and rail links, cutting travel times. The journey between Changzhou and Taizhou now takes just 20 minutes, compared with 80 minutes previously.
The bridge has set several engineering precedents according to its builders, featuring a record-breaking span for a cable-stayed design. It is also claimed to be the longest span combined road-rail steel truss arch bridge, featuring the longest continuous length of steel truss girders.
