Completion of construction works for the 258km Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway extension project will be delayed. The expressway links Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and some portions of the route in Karnataka are already being used.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) says that the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway extension project will provide three lanes in either direction once the work is complete. Completion of National Expressway 7 will reduce the journey time between Chennai and Bangalore from five hours to around three, while cutting the distance from around 300km to around 250km.
However, work for the adjacent 34km highway linking Sriperumbudur and Karaipettai will not be complete until the end of 2026.
