A Chinese contractor is commencing construction on a key Cambodian bridge project in the north east of the country. The 1.76km-long bridge will span the Mekong River and is being built by the Shanghai Construction Company (SCG). Supervision of the bridge project will be handled by the Chinese firm Guangzhou Wanan Technical Consulting Company.
Building the bridge is expected to cost US$114 million. Funding is being supplied via the Cambodian Government as well as through a loan supplied by the Chinese Government. The project includes the construction of a 32km road stretch and is expected to take three and a half years to complete, boosting transport for Cambodia.
