Massimo Palomba, product manager and key sector manager for e-mobility at Bonfiglioli, said the company’s strategy is to implement the change in the next few years.
“We already provide the drive systems and the next step for us is to provide the solution that features digitalisation, big data, recording and analysis, in order to provide predictive maintenance and so on,” Palomba added.
He said that, as part of the move to becoming a solutions provider, Bonfiglioli has developed its own sensors that can be included in the systems it sells to customers.
“The sensor will acquire the data of what the drive is doing – the torque, the temperature, speed and vibrations,” said Palomba. “The key is reading this amount of data correctly and what it means.”
Fabio Campana, product marketing director for Bonfiglioli mobile & wind industries, said the solutions provider approach has already started to be applied in the company’s mining and quarrying crushing equipment business, shredder applications, and wind turbines business, with the latter accounting for 25% of Bonfiglioli’s total turnover.
Palomba added that the company plans to extend the solutions provider approach to its business in compact construction equipment.
“The journey to become a solution provider has started. It will take a while, but it is a clear target to us.”
