A major road project in Adelaide,South Australia, will help reduce congestion and cut journey times for commuters and heavy transport vehicles and the tender process is now underway for the work. The T2D Project will see the construction of the last 10.5km stretch of the North-South Corridor (NSC).
Once the project is will complete, South Australia will benefit from a 78km highway running between Gawler to the north of Adelaide and Old Noarlunga on the southern side of the city. The route will feature tunnels as well as lowered and surface-level highway sections. It will also have a number of overpasses and underpasses at key intersections.
According to the authorities by having the cars and trucks using the route, the T2D Project will connect communities across Greater Adelaide. The commute from West Hindmarsh to Darlington will take just nine minutes, saving 30 to 40 minutes of travel time during peak hour traffic. The highway will deliver shorter journey times to key destinations including the CBD and major gateways such as Port Adelaide and Adelaide Airport as well as a crucial route for heavy vehicles and commercial freight trips.
Companies must demonstrate they have the capacity to take part in the project before they gain access to the ROI. The procurement process will be progressed with an Expression of Interest scheduled to be issued by the Department by April 2023, followed by a Request for Proposal in around September 2023, and the Contract Award in mid-2024. Following the release of major design and other changes by the state government in December 2022, the timeline and approach to both project construction and procurement was revised.
