Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo, is to benefit from road improvement works costing $83.5 million. The funding package paying for the works is being supplied by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA). This follows an agreement between the Republic of Congo Government and BADEA.
Seven major upgrades will be carried out, which will also include maintenance works on key routes. The upgrades include building a new viaduct along the Congo River, and extending the corniche road. A new bridge will be built over the Djoué River while an existing bridge will be improved and upgraded. Other works include a new interchange, new link roads and a new pedestrian bridge.
Meanwhile, Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo recently signed an agreement for the project to build a road and rail link between the two capitals, Brazzaville and Kinshasa respectively. The project was first proposed three decades ago and this new agreement covers aspects such as tax and customs. The tender process for the concessionaire for the project is commencing shortly.
In addition, work is being carried out in the Democratic Republic of Congo to key roads in Kananga. Two major projects worth $90 million and $105 million are being carried out, which will improve a total of 84km of roads.
