New road connections to Bahrain Airport will improve traffic flow. Construction work worth $68.5 million is being carried out, which will speed journeys to and from the airport.

This forms part of the Phase 3A development project for the airport. The construction work is being carried out by a consortium that comprises local firm Nas Contracting and Nassir Hazza and Brothers from Saudi Arabia. A portion of funding is being supplied by the Saudi Fund for Development.

The road improvement work will boost capacity to 16,000 vehicles/hour and cut congestion on the Arad and Khalifa Al Kabeer highways. A new free left-turn bridge will be built on the Khalifa Al Kabeer highway at the junction with Arad highway. The work is needed as the population in the area is growing, with increasing numbers of registered vehicles using the roads.
