$230 million for five road projects in Nicaragua

Transport in Nicaragua is to benefit from a funding package worth $230 million being provided by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). The projects will help deliver a much-needed economic boost for the Central American nation.

Work will be carried out to a 9km stretch of highway linking the capital, Managua, with Nicaragua’s second city, León. This will commence in October 2026. Construction will also start in October 2026 for a 14km stretch of the bypass linking Diriamba and Jinotepe.

Building work is due to commence for the 12km Estelí Bypass in November 2026. The $50 million project will be for two-lane, concrete road and the project includes building a new bridge, four intersections and eight box culverts. Other works will be a for a 6km stretch of road at El Guasaule and a 12km stretch of road at Las Manos.

And construction work will start on the 13km Diriamba-Jinotepe bypass in October 2026. This project is expected to cost $33 million. Funding is also being provided by CABEI.
