Planning work is being carried out in India for the new highway to improve transport between Kerala State and Tamil Nadu State in South India. The project is expected to cost nearly $2.2 billion, with the work being handled in three stages. Two of the sections will be in Kerala, with the third in Tamil Nadu.
A Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared for the new highway. When complete, NH 744 will link Kadambattukonam in Kerala with Sengottai (Shenkottai) in Tamil Nadu. The project will help boost trade and transport and provide a significant economic benefit for Kerala’s tea production.
Meanwhile, work is due for completion for a new elevated highway linking Chennai Port and Maduravoyal in Tamil Nadu in late 2027. The project is costing nearly $369 million and will improve transport for heavy vehicles to and from Chennai Port, while reducing traffic in the surrounding areas. The work is being managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the Chennai Port Authority.
