The UK government is planning upgrades for two junctions on London’sorbital M25 motorway.
The go-ahead has been given for a €146 million upgrade of Junction 28, while there are plans for a €292.5 million upgrade of Junction 10.
Graham Construction won the contract for the junction which connects the M25 with the A12 to the North East of London. The work includes construction of a two-lane loop road with a hard shoulder and is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2022.
Earlier this month, Graham’s Congleton Link Road project received two UK highways industry awards. The €106.6 million link road team received the large-project-of-the-year accolade at both the Institute of Highways Engineers and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation 2022 awards ceremonies.
Graham’s project team, working in collaboration with Cheshire East Council and contractor Ringway Jacobs’ staff, delivered the 5.5km Wolstenholme Elmy Way on budget against a backdrop of severe challenges, including exceptional wet weather and disruption due to the Covid pandemic.
Meanwhile, the UK Government has signed a development consent order for the Junction 10 upgrade, which will improve traffic flow between the M25 and A3 to the South West of London.
The junction improvement work will boost safety for drivers. At peak periods there is a particular issue for drivers changing from the A3 Southbound to the M25. Tailbacks can build-up, with high speed southbound traffic driving past slow moving vehicles. The M25 can also be very congested between junctions 10 and 11, with extra capacity required to reduce delays.
The work will be carried out in a joint venture between Atkins and Balfour Beatty and is due for completion in the third quarter of 2024.
