Approval has been given for afeasibility study into a proposed freeway widening project in Taiwan. The proposal is for the widening of National Freeway 1 along a 12.5km section. An additional lane will be added to the route in either direction between Houli and Daya in a bid to boost capacity and cut congestion.
The approval for the feasibility study was given by Taiwan’s National Development Council. The project will require three of the eight bridges that cross the section of freeway to be removed and replaced. The work is expected to take nine years to carry out and has an estimated cost of US$340 million.
